Thomas Weinzierl studied Geography and Biology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich where he wrote his bachelor-thesis about causes and effects of earthquakes. At the University of Hamburg he enrolled in the masters program „Global Transformations and Environmental Change“, from which he graduated with a thesis on Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) in the Okavango Catchment. For his Ph.D. thesis, he developed decision-support systems for integrated resource management in Southwestern Africa.
