Lena Theiler was a student of the Master's program “Sociology - European societies” at the Freie Universität Berlin. She wrote her Master’s thesis at the Research Group Climate Change and Security, supervised by Jürgen Scheffran.

Her research focuses on human interaction with and adaptation to a changing environment. In her thesis, she analyzed individual migration decisions using qualitative methods.
