Grace Wambui Ngaruiya graduated from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. She completed her Master’s degree in Biology of Conservation at the same University in 2009. In her Master's thesis, she documented the population and status of endemic and endangered elephant-shrew species in the North coastal forests of Kenya and recorded a new species, which is still undergoing classification at the National Museums of Kenya.
Grace completed her PhD in 2014 at the Research Group Climate Change and Security, focusing particularly on conflict geography and climate change adaptation and on successful conservation of ecosystem services. In her thesis, she quantitatively analyzed interactions between land stakeholders, climate change and conflicts on the economic values of ecosystem services in semi-arid areas of Kenya.
